Building positive relationships is at the core of everything we do and this starts with our youngest learners. The concept of bringing old and young together can bring both generations a great deal of joy, knowledge and enthusiasm for each other’s lives and this is why at Immanuel Early Learning Centre, we visit Immanuel Gardens Care Home with our two kindergarten classes.
When visiting the facility, children participate in activities such as painting, drumming, singing and spending time in one another’s company and enjoying the benefits involved. The program was developed because many IELC families did not have a grandparent nearby and staff felt it would be beneficial for the social and emotional wellbeing for all involved.
Research has shown that these interactions can have fantastic benefits for each generation. Studies have shown that activities that include children and older adults can increase self-esteem and promote friendships.
